PLC Time

The philosophy behind creating a Professional Learning Community is to focus on learning rather than teaching, working collaboratively, and being accountable for results.

Late-start Mondays are school board-provided time in the yearly calendar for Professional Learning Communities. During this time teachers identify what students are to know and do, identify which types of assessments match instruction, review together the results of these assessments, and then work together to identify the instructional materials and strategies to meet the needs of students who have learned and those who have not learned the intended learnings.

At Parkway teachers complete PLC Reflection Sheets following Monday meetings which highlight the four pillars from our School Improvement Plan.

1. Curriculum: Increase vertical and horizontal communication in relation to scope and sequence (Power Standards, Pacing Guides, Common Academic Vocabulary)

2. Instruction: Establish a plan to follow-up on professional development (Professional Development Reflection Sheets, GLAD Strategies, and PTL Components)

3. Assessment: Use assessment data to drive individual instruction (Common Formative Assessments, NWEA Data Review, Other Data Review)

4. Interventions: Create/Plan for in classroom and building interventions (Additional Time and Support During the Day, RTI/Pyramid of Intervention, Intervention Strategies within the Classroom - GLAD)
